When should I replace/upgrade my fuse board/fuse box?

An electrical inspection will determine whether your existing fuse board consumer unit is safe and meets current regulations. If it does not then it’s time to upgrade.

If you are planning a construction or home improvement project such as an extension or a loft conversion, new electric shower or hot tub installation. Any resulting additional wiring and new circuits may require a consumer unit installation or upgrade.

Are there any signs I can look out for?

If your fuse board unit has wooden backing or iron switches it will not meet current fire regulations and is at risk of fire.

Does your consumer unit have an RCD (Residual Current Device)? If not an upgrade may be required as all new fuse board units contain this device increasing the safety of your home electrics.
